Foreign Languages College(FLC), formerly the English Department of Civil Aviation Flight University of China(CAFUC), was set up in June,2001. FLC comprises three Sections and two research centers: English Language and Culture Section, General English Section, Aviation English Section, New Zealand Studies Center and Aviation English Research Center. Of the 55 faculty members, five are professors, fifteen associate professors. Over years of teaching and researching, FLC has made considerable achievements in the domains of general linguistics, applied linguistics, literature, translation, second language acquisition, Aviation English research.
The current enrollment of the college is over 400 undergraduates. FLC offers English language programs for both English major and non-English major, and Aviation English program for all aviation students. It also offers courses like flight translation, business English, tourism English, secretarial English, cabin crew English, modern office technology ,and civil aviation transportation.Professional courses, such as air traffic control, dispatch and flight information, are also provided for English major.
Co-hosted with University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Dual bachelor's degree for International Trade can also be granted.
Elected as one of the nations 'college English teaching reform experimental units, FLC has adopted the recommended students-oriented teaching approach, and has made significant achievements in improving students communication ability.
In recent years FLC has made continuous efforts in its teaching and research of aviation English. It is particularly noteworthy that Radiotelephony, one of the core courses for aviation students, was granted Sichuan Fine Course in October 2003.
